THE LIVING FRACTURE
Fracture-Scaping begins with naturally found wood fractures. I read their ridges, recesses and planes as fields of landscape possibility, using chromatic interpretation to reveal rather than design the composition. The fracture remains the governing form and a participant in authorship.
PRESERVED FORM, PAINTED INTERPRETATION
Interpretation remains confined to naturally fractured surfaces. Unaffected exterior wood and bark are preserved, and expressive fracture geometry is not mechanically reshaped. Minimal preparation is permitted only on the horizontal base plane when required for stable presentation.
PROVENANCE AND STEWARDSHIP
The practice preserves each work’s available connection to its source, while By Nature works require documented geographic provenance and chain of custody.

CATALOGUE NOTE
Autumn Vantage originated as an off-cut from the first recovery site of Expedition 1. Like Ice-Blown Sentry, it separated from the principal structure during extraction and was retained as secondary material rather than entering the main FSN stabilization stream.
Its densely ridged face suggested an autumnal forest interrupted by a narrow turquoise channel and a pale elevated form. The opposing side presented a more severe vertical surface, allowing the work to move between intimate forest detail and the impression of a distant mountain landscape.
Autumn Vantage became the second early test of black gesso and heavy-body acrylic on recovered Alberta material. Although it was field-dried, it did not receive the borate treatment required by the emerging FSN standard. It was therefore completed within Genesis, preserving its authorized field origin and experimental role without representing it as FSN-qualified.
