THE LIVING FRACTURE
Fracture-Scaping begins with naturally found wood fractures. I read their ridges, recesses and planes as fields of landscape possibility, using chromatic interpretation to reveal rather than design the composition. The fracture remains the governing form and a participant in authorship.
PRESERVED FORM, PAINTED INTERPRETATION
Interpretation remains confined to naturally fractured surfaces. Unaffected exterior wood and bark are preserved, and expressive fracture geometry is not mechanically reshaped. Minimal preparation is permitted only on the horizontal base plane when required for stable presentation.
PROVENANCE AND STEWARDSHIP
The practice preserves each work’s available connection to its source, while By Nature works require documented geographic provenance and chain of custody.

CATALOGUE NOTE
Snow-Capped Expanse is the founding work of Fracture-Scaping. Its ascending ridges suggested pale alpine faces, while colour gathered within the seams and a narrow blue line established water along the lower edge.
Resin was considered as a means of filling the channels between the projecting forms but was deliberately rejected. That decision established a foundational principle of the practice: the fracture’s voids and irregularities would remain materially present rather than being filled or cosmetically normalized.
The work predates the current Fracture-Scapes by Nature provenance, stabilization and archival-material standards. Its early materials and incomplete recovery history remain openly documented as part of the Genesis developmental record.
DOCUMENTATION
The work was acquired from existing private stock. No in-situ recovery photographs or contemporaneous field notes are known to exist. Its precise source location, recovery date and fracture event remain undocumented.
Existing records preserve the available acquisition history, object photography, dimensions, material information and continuing condition of the work.
